Random Thoughts and Brain Farts: Spore, George Carlin, Final Crisis

I’m really loving this Spore Creature Creator. I’m a fan of Will Wright’s other big games (The Sims & Sims 2, and of course Sim City), I like the big concept behind Spore and it looks like time they took with the game was well spent. No way I’m paying 10 bucks for the full creature creator when it’ll come bundled with the game when I buy it. All my creatures have been family friendly, creating penis monsters isn’t how I get my kicks. I hope you can skip through some of the stages when playing game. I don’t know if I’ll be into the cellular level challenges after owning the game for awhile. I can see me getting impatient and wanting to skip to civilization building.

I can’t believe George Carlin passed away this week. He and Cosby were first two comedians I remember listening to when I was a kid. George Carlins “A Place for my Stuff” was the first comedy album I owned. And yeah it was a vynil LP album, I still have it on my shelf with my very modest record collection. I’ve always found Carlin’s view of life, challenges to society, and observations  to be hilarious. Plus his voice always seems to be floating around our house either as the character Filmore in my son’s favorite movie, Cars OR as the narrator on a few of our Thomas the Tank Engine DVDs. Rest in Peace, George. You gave me and a lot of other people a great deal of laughter and entertainment.

So today the 2nd issue of Final Crisis comes out from DC Comics. I’ll purchase it, even though I haven’t kept up at all with the previous Countdown weekly series. Basically I like the idea of the multi-verse coming back in some form. The multiple Earths idea was something I thought was cool in the DC books back in the day. I just hope this thing comes off well, and doesn’t amount into a continuity disaster such as Zero Hour. Having Grant Morrison at the helm of this does give me a great deal of confidence. He’s a very competent writer who has rarely disappointed me in any of his works.
