Steve Gerber Remembered
Steve Gerber passed way on Sunday Feburay 10th. With his death comicdom lost a great talent and creator. I’ve long been a fan of Gerber’s most well known character Howard the Duck. Gerber changed the idea of what a comic book could be and what it could communicate, the tone and subject matter of Howard’s series was different from anything else coming out of the stodgy major publishers. Howard the Duck throughout its run in the 70’s was a full of biting satire and bizarreness that is still fun to read. I’ve been going through the series in a collected Marvel Essentials volume.
Marvel has collected the entire original Howard the Duck series and other comics in that continuity within the large hardcover omnibus format. Some of the Steve Gerber’s last stories can be read in DC Comic’s Countdown to Mystery mini series.
Steve Gerber is remember throughout a few dedications and obits that have come out this week.
