Comic Book News Wrap – Issue #10

Brian K. Vaughan Ends Y: The Last Man to go to Lost

I’m sorry to say I haven’t read but a couple of the first issues of the Y: The Last Man series from DC’s Vertigo imprint. It’s been so well received by critics, readers and other creators that I must read it in trade paperback. CNN published a big article on Vaughan’s move to writing for the ABC series, Lost. I love to see the ‘cross pollination” of talent between the big screen, small screen and comic books. Vaughan’s move from Y to Lost has actually gotten quite a big of main stream media attention.

New Captain America Debuts Today

Now that Bucky/Winter Soldier has donned the new Captain America some of the press is giving the issue coverage. A lot of Cap fans think the new costume is over chromed, way too shiny; others are offended by the gun, and other still just find the new costume uninspired and similar to other Alex Ross costume redesigns. Personally, I don’t have any problem with the costume. I mean I still love the original better then any other Cap costume they could come up with. I guess its tough for me to complain about anything related to this series since the writing and artwork have just been so incredible with this creative team.

Smallville’s Chloe Sullivan NOT coming to Superman Comic Books

In a reversal of what was original announced, it looks like DC Comics won’t be bringing the popular character from the Smallville television series into the Superman comic book universe. The reasons why are fuzzy. The best guesses revolve around the rights behind the character ownership, or the difficulty of shoehorning the adult version of this character into the comic books. Either way, it ain’t happening folks.  I jumped off the Smallville ship a few seasons ago, around when my wife got pregnant with our son and I’m not a regular Superman reader. It would’ve been cool though to have this character in the mix. Superman could use some new blood in his cast of characters, and the Chloe character’s knowledge of Clark Kent’s powers could’ve offered an interesting dimension.
